good evening folks, I’ve got a 15l hyco speedflow undersink electrical water heater to connect. The install instructions say a 13 amp fuse spur is required. Currently there is only a socket, without switch, in the next cupboard. Would it be possible to swap this for a fuse spur? I’m not by any stretch an electrician @art b Would it be ok for me to put a 13 amp plug onto the water heater and just plug it in? Any help appreciated
If it was me, I would just take the unswitched socket off (presuming it's a 1 gang) and fit a switched fused connection unit with neon in it's place. That's assuming that the existing socket is feed from the ring main or spurred off it and not from the lighting circuit! Clicky linky thingy below. https://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-13a-switched-fused-connection-unit-with-neon-white/79474
You could just plug it in the existing socket, but a dual pole fused connection unit would be neater and better. Easy enough to wire in.
If its on a ring it will be 6 wires if its a spur it will be 3 but straight forward. Just putting my tin hat on waiting for a electrician to say you need to be registered to touch electrics - just add 300 onto the bill
It's v. unlikely a socket is off a lighting circuit. Make sure you isolate the right circuit (and check) before getting stuck in .
Get @snotty to put his tongue on the cable and turn on the lights. If he squeals you've got your answer!!
If he puts his tongue on it in the dark then turn the lights on and he squeals How else do you want me to read it
