Cars are far too noisy. The quieter the better in my opinion. Most of them are fitted with an audible warning device, aka a horn if you need to alert anyone to your approach.

My horn only alerts people at short range

  5. Ditto - looking seriously at ID3 for our "family" car that only does local journeys.

I'd love ID Buzz in a few years time when that comes out. It's awesome. Slammed on fuchs obviously..

  7. I like driving my van, it makes lots of noise, but seems a lot of 'drivers' can't hear or see me coming and choose to pull out of side roads just in front of me, little old lady with head peering over the dash did that to me yesterday, came out from the right and within yards turned off to the left. Good my brakes work well or her car would have been toast.

Old people with electric cars, deadly combination. As an oap myself I get my eyes and hearing tested annually so I can keep driving safely.

  8. I too had a close call recently with a Nissan Leaf in a car park. Although fitted with a horn, the driver was unaware that the car was silent to pedestrians and did not use it.

I never cease to be amazed by the number of people on campsites don't hear the bus coming up behind them!

I remember those in Newcastle. Fantastic machines. Don't understand why they got rid of them.

  13. All new electric vehicles have to be fitted with a noise generator. Just got back from a course on the new Merc EQC, the noise generator sounds like a badly tuned radio. Why they didn’t reproduce a nice V8 sounds who knows, but any noise is better than none at alerting people.

  14. All Vauxhall Corsas are already fitted with a noise generator that goes "Booomcha, boomcha, boomcha"...

  17. Apparently, they weren't 'flexible' enough and the infrastructure was considered too expensive to maintain.

Still have them in lots of European cities though!:)

  19. A friend of mine has an electric golf. He took me for a spin. I was impressed... really nippy. First thing he said though was you have to be so careful. Folk step out in front of you all the time. And with that someone did!
