Double relay test

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by dave smith, Nov 28, 2016.

  1. Hi all I have a Bosch double relay that I would like to sell however I'm unsure if it works, anybody know how I would test it?

    Thanks in advance

  2. if its 12v, connect 12v to the relay coil and listen for the click as the contacts close

you can confirm contacts are open/closed using a multimeter

    Flakey likes this.
  4. Sorry I don't want to sound dim but what's the relay coil? The relay came in a box of parts with my van, the fuel injection system is no longer fitted as I have swapped to a type 1

  5. relays use a coil of wire to produce a magnetic field, once energised the magnetic field pulls on the contacts and closes them (or opens them depending on the relay)

most relays have a diagram on the side showing the pin numbers to help you work out which is the coil and which is the contacts

  6. Brilliant thanks for the help I'll get it tested and hopefully somebody will be able to put it to use
