Dizzy question

  1. Hi all,

    2.1 DJ petrol

Slightly odd one and need some help to understand. Yesterday I started my van up and it sounded terrible and felt like it was misfiring. Had been running up to this point (Well no issues with engine) when I look at the engine I could see the air pressure regulator tube which sits just off the distributor was touching the edge of one of the HT leads, causing a spark and in tern making it misfire. The tube that comes of the regulator as you can see is very close to the distributor so Im not surprised its manged to touch the distributor. What I am not sure about is why it decided to arc against a rubber tube?!

Is there a bigger problem here or would this be expected if a cable physically touched the HT lead?

The tube is made of carbon loaded rubber or its covered in dirt, or the electrical discharge from the lead has started to char the rubber- the blue glow is very hot and full of reactive ozone... this can happen even if the tubing isnt grounded, its due to the fast high voltage pulses on the ignition lead causing energy to be transmitted from the lead. If you were still using an AM radio you would have heard the crackling all over your radio station.

Separate them and inspect for a small hole in the insulation of the lead or surface damage there too...

  3. I would replace that vac hose with some decent rubber hose. You can get rubber vac hose with a moulded 90 degree elbow on

  5. Why? There is nothing wrong with the HT lead, no holes they practically new.

  6. Sounds like a plan
