Dinner time emergency

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by rustbucket, Apr 7, 2020.

  1. I’ve just run the gauntlet of the Tesco queue as I’m cooking dinner for my kids this evening. I’m making toad in the hole. I’ve just discovered that I only have a bit of plain flour left, but I do have a bag of self raising left. There’s no way I’m going back out queuing again. So my question is can I bulk up the mix with self raising or will my oven explode in something like a a scene from “the blob”

Shouldn't be a problem. Might be a little fluffier than usual though!

  3. Just the fact that you knew "the blob" I'd say give it a whirl what could go wrong. I insist on a video of you dancing to this in the kitchen while the kids look on mystified

Last time I made toad in the hole I didn't end up eating it, I lost my appetite when I took them out of the oven:eek:

I’m told you can bulk out plain flower with cocaine.

You have to be naked in just your kecks doing it though.

Finally, all those years watching Crocket and Tubbs pay dividends.....

  10. Make your mix ,add a table spoon of warm water and whisk just befor you add it to your piping hot fat . All will be well oh and part cook your bangers before adding to the mix this way they are warm and won’t make your batter soggy

My old mum was a terrible cook (self admitted).
She once made Toad in the hole. It was so bad it was henceforth christened ‘frog in a bog’

  20. There’s me thinking someone
Had to do the Heimlich manoeuvre thing !:)
