Knew it was a bit rusty under the windscreen seal so decided to replace and sort out the problem.
My dilemma is how much to cut out and how far down the front panel should I go.
    The inner panel seems okay.
Which repair panels would be best.

As you can see it has been done once already about 6 years ago. Reckon the seal wasn't snug enough.

It would be a shame to cut out good original metal but how far would you go.
    Welcome your thoughts.
    Cheers :)

  2. Until you’ve rubbed it right back how can you know? Some of that might be little more than surface. It might only need some patching in.

  3. As per rustbucket...

Remove paint to see extent of rust.

    Good luck

  4. Doesn't look that bad tbh. Once you strip the paint off you may find you can just individually patch the rusty bits in the seal channel.

your bus has always looked very nice and tidy from photo's you've posted :)

How original is it? You mentioned its been done a while back, how much / what was done?

The more original metal on the bus, I'd consider to go for a more minimal but effective repair using the best available panels.

We've tried to use a similar approach on ours, where possible!

Looks ok to me, mine was bad so i replaced the front panel.
If i was you id grind back the bubbles then do little spot welds to replace any pitted metal then smooth it off prime and repaint [IMG]

  7. That's tiny grind it back to metal and make a repair panel. Unless it's very thin metal you should be ok

The whole van has never been a bare metal resto @MorkC68 with welding etc. so basically original.
The screen channel replacement done a while back was due to water collecting and poor sealing.
Had both front doors replaced 12 years ago and apart from that only general costmetic surgery.

I did think it was original!

Then a sympathetic restoration would do it justice, maintain its originality as best you can. Not many buses around of that calibre :D

  10. if it's not too bad yuo could braze it with brass - very satisfying to do :)
