Devon ???

  1. Couple of questions that can hopefully be answered on here
    1. The van was sold as a Devon and does have a Devon pop up but after reading through threads on here I'm not sure about the single louvered window think I'm correct in saying devons are split down the middle, is there anyway to be certain it's a Devon or different conversion.
    2. Can the original number plate be sold..... due to living in Scotland and the Celtic and rangers scene I am dubious about leaving the original plate on in case it gets painted green or scratched.
    Thanks for any help

  2. have a look at the furniture might be a plaque on it ,the window/door is westy...

    chances are it's a devon...:hattip:

  3. Thankyou, unfortunately there is no furniture to look at :-/ , I do have plans for original devon furniture though

  4. Someone in the past may have replaced the window

  5. That's a westy louvered window so its been put in by another owner.

  6. Is any original furniture left plus devons had a devon conversion sticker under the ash tray, any sign of this or a circular mark where it was ?

  7. No original furniture left, it does have original dash so will look underneath when home. Looking like I will have to replace the window with one that's suitable for a Devon. Thanks for the help :)

  8. why replace it's fine, devons didn't have a window there just glass, the louvered was on the other side.
I've seen your dash and there seems to be swtches where it should be (added later)

In our bus's first life, I fitted a Devon Style pop top, and two louvered windows to what was originally a Kombi bus.

The result was a Devon look alike from the outside, maybe that's what you also have.

  15. I might have original Devon furniture available soon ;)

The pop looks Devon to me. On my devon, the window is on the opposite side to sliding door. I think maybe just your sliding door has come off a westy, maybe?

  16. Yeah seems to be looking that way.
Do you have the set of drawers underneath the bed, the ones above the engine ? I know not all devons have these but seem really good idea to me.

  17. No, but also, my bed doesn't work that way... Mine has two rows of back seats.. one flip/flops front or rear facing and they fold together into a bed. The rear shelf is not used.

  18. Nice van. I wouldn't worry about its precise origins but it is a shame about the number plate. Maybe flog it to a Rangers supporter?

It is definitely a Devon roof. That roof is almost definitely the original roof by the tell tale signs in the picture. The window opening in the slider , with the louvres is exactly the same size as the opening on the opposite side. That Westy style window will fit both sides, and so will about four or five different opening window options. It's not a biggy where it goes and with Devon, there is not often two exactly the same because of the flexibility of design and customers wish lists and dealer adaptations. Some Devons came with Dormy stuff and visa versus, it was a bit of a cut throat business I've been led to believe, if the customer wanted it, the customer got it. These were a lot cheaper than the Westy so still had a bit of leeway in the price. Opening windows were sometimes added as an after sales thing to try and help with condensation and most busses would benefit from more ventilation. The next model roofwise after your Devon , had two roof vents fitted then I've seen them with four vents and six vents. I've got two because I'm not greedy;) and I have an opener in the slider but I got a sliding one with insect mesh, works a treat and rattles a lot less than the el lowvree styleee. I wouldn't make any decision just yet, just use it and see how it works for you, moving a window to opposite would only take an hour or so.

    Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,, nice van too :)
