    Hi peeps,

I’ve got a Devon moonraker but ours didnt come with a fridge just a coolbox , it’s cracked, and doesnt keep anything cold lol.

Been pondering my options, either putting in a RM123 fridge or Waeco CRX50 or just running a plugin coolbox/fridge. Only thing with the crx50 is about 10cm too deep (50cm total depth) as cupboard is 39cm depth

Anyone got pics of their replacement ie rm123 or crx50 fridge in a camperconversion, ie Devon etc? Am thinking to keep milk, drinks, water, and food, is it worth the hassle or just get a combicoolbox or similar?

Would value your thoughts and appreciate looking at any photos of your setup

    Cheers Julian

  2. I have the same conversion and mine came with a rm122 which I upgraded to a rm123 - 3 way.
The issue you have is you won't have a vent cut in the body for gas, if you still have the original units I would put a 123 in.

  3. Incidently I got mine 2nd hand for under £100, I would not pay what they want for a new one !!!

If you can afford the Compressor fridge, then go with that. As far as I'm aware you don't need to cut any holes in the bodywork for venting. Fit a big solar panel to help power it.

The compressor fridge seems a good choice, im just trying to visualise how it will fit as the devon units are "slim" and not very deep. Just trying to visualise how far a compressor fridge would stick out if fitted to a devon unit or similar.

Anyone got pics if their fridge in a devon moonraker interior or similar?

  6. 20180517_192739.jpg The rm123 slots perfectly in under the sink where your cooler is.
It's too the left of these units. 20180517_192335.jpg

  7. I have the original fridge but can’t light it!, I’m getting a spark when I push the button and am turning the knob to the left, it is connected to gas bottle. Just cannot light it!! Any hints or tips ?

Are you keeping the knob pushed in all the time else gas won't flow. It can take a while for gas to get from the cylinder to the fridge as it is a very low flow rate. Does your cooker work? Light that to get some gas through from the cylinder. It will then have less far to go to the fridge.

  9. You need to turn and keep the button pushed in, can take a few times to light, leave it a few seconds between pressing the ignite button.

  10. Ok thanks yes cooker works but I’ve been holding down the knob whilst tryng to light the fridge, sounds like I should hold it down for longer I’ll try that

  11. My RM122 was a pig to light - I'm not convinced it actually got cold either, even when it was lit. I decided that I was better off with a 2 way cooler box (which I already had) which got things really cold. I was told it isn't a good idea to use the fridge on the gas whilst driving and TBH I was't all that keen on leaving it on all night anyway. It didn't seem to work on the battery either.
I now use the fridge just to store foods to keep them from melting etc like biscuits / chocolate and put drinks in it, because on it's own without being switched on it does this quite nicely. For stuff that needs chilling I use the cool box which I can leave in my awning plugged in all day / night.

I have been perusing eBay of late to see what 3 way absorption fridges are going for. The internal space in our vans means the old Electrolux (now Dometic) RM122/123 absorption fridge was the favoured one and the prices 2nd hand ones are fetching vary's greatly.

This sold only the other day

These are still up for auction
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Electrol...003068&hash=item3d696622ee:g:ISQAAOSw0-BbJLmS

This would most probably work fine if left inverted for a few days so as to mix the internals up and break up the crystallising
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dometic-...564463?hash=item2aabc6e26f:g:hnIAAOSw95lbH-q1

this one IMHO is poorly listed and so may not go for more than the listing price.

The cheapest Waeco CRX50 compressor fridge is this....and the auction has not ended

But as has already been said, absorption fridges need flues to vent the combustion gases outside so a hole has to be cut in the van creating further costs.

  13. Check the gas is on, light the cooker to confirm, turn the cooker off.
Push the knob in, turn it to 3, keep it held in & count to ten.
Press the button every two seconds until it goes 'woof' & you see a yellow/blue flame through the window.
Keep the knob pressed in & count to 15
Now release the knob & check that the flame is blue & doesn't go out.

If it won't light, the burner needs cleaning
If the flame is yellow not blue, the burner needs cleaning
If it stays lit until you release the button and then goes out, you need a new thermo-couple.

    That'll be a pound.
