    I think so...

  3. you take the wire straight from the - NEGATIVE on the coil. When I did mine i fitted the diode just before the gauge itself so its protected at the back of the dash pod. I used a bullet connector on the one side, I just carefully folded the wire and crimped it, I then fitted a female connector directly to the other side.Make sure you get the orientation right. You then want to take the live to an ignition switched live on the fuse box, I used an inline fuse here as well, just in case.

I wired mine up to the coil -ve (type 4 engine). Can be wired up to either apparently.

I didn't take a pic of the folding diode thing cos i was holding the soldering iron between my teeth at the time and then put heat shrink over it!! The idea of folding is just to give the crimp a wide contact area to stop it falling out! It's quite simple though... take one tail of the diode and fold it in half, insert it into the crimping bit of a female spade connector and crimp... or i you're like me, fill the spade hole with solder and insert the diode. the other end of the diode is going to need soldering, so did both and covered with heat shrink.

  5. second wire from the left has the diode. As you can see the protective sleeve is longer

  7. Thanks fellas - that's great. Think I get it now! Just out of interest what does a diode do?

Looked nicer once the pod was blacked up!!

Am I allowed to say blacked up? I mean Back to Blacked up

  11. Hadn't thought of doing that. Might do that tomorrow as I've got pod out trying to sort charging issues.

  12. @Deluxe Dials please can I have an prototype bay tachometer but without the centre ring for my 1975. Please let me know payment arrangements. Many thanks.

  13. Hi Paul

The diode simply connects to the tacho and then to the wire that feeds from the coil. The diode ends are too long so instead of cutting them I recommend folding them in to make them shorter and give you more meat to clamp your connector too. Make sure you don't leave too much of the metal ends exposed to avoid it shorting.

    Good luck with it

  15. Please can I have a response too;)

  16. Apologies to all for the delay. I have replied to most PMs. I'm right in the middle of a house move. Production of a new batch will begin mid next week. I should have gauges ready to dispatch a week after that. These delays are inevitable. This is why I don't take any money till your gauge is built, tested and ready to dispatch. So sorry to all those waiting once again. Not long now.
