Deers Glade and Hevingham Lakes

  1. We've been to Deers Glade http://www.deersglade.co.uk/ several times over the last few years even though it's just up the road. It's (relatively) cheap, is nice and small, has awesome bathrooms and is in the middle of some beautiful countryside yet close to Cromer, Aylsham and Norwich. A large number of the pitches have electrical hook-up and there is also wi-fi if you really can't live without it. There is a small shop on-site selling the basics at not-stupid money.

On the minus side, it is getting more popular and is often quite busy these days so not as quiet as it used to be.

Last week, on our first trip out in the newly resurrected bus we couldn't get in to Deers Glade as it was full so we went here instead: http://www.hevinghamlakes.co.uk/

Location-wise it tops Deers Glade as it's set within woodland around two small fishing lakes. The site is divided into smaller areas so you never really feel like you're sharing it with many people, there is a hook-up area if you want it but most of the site is basics only. They are very flexible about setting out your pitch, we went with friends who had a caravan and basically created a little compound between two trees. It is cheaper than Deers Glade but the amenities are decidedly basic. There is only hot water in the washing up room unless you want to pay 50p for a shower.

To summarise these are two back-to-basics campsites with no on-site entertainment or swimming pools etc, just somewhere to park up and explore a beautiful part of the country (not biased). Deers Glade is newer and with better facilities but is more expensive and the site (although nice) isn't as picturesque as Hevingham Lakes.
