Hi guys, new on here but had this van about five years know and the time has come to stop doing repairs and do the full on resto! When we bought Daisy this is how she looked, pretty solid with a tin top but a pretty rough interior. So I fitted a nice devon roof and decent Westfalia interior But the time has come for her restoration, so far the van has been stripped down and the windows and doors are off found this under the rear window seal Have cut the n/s arch out and all the rot around it Have cut the n/s sill out as the middle sill was gone and wanna do it right and have just fitted my jig so i can strip the underside back and also get easier access to the sills and bits. Just got a delivery from alan schofields So gona replace both sills and front n/s arch (o/s done last year) Both rear arches need replacing but gona keep as much good original metal as poss and rear valence and corners need work. Good news is the chassis is in almost perfect condition so well happy with that. Going to be repainting her in similar style with the flowers but going brown with a slightly different shade brown for the flowers ghosted into the paint think it will look ace! Will keep updating when things happen, want her back on road for summer :- Has anyone got and pics of how the b and c pillars should be around the sill as mine have gone and wanna rebuild them? Cheers guys David
great looking project ....didnt look too bad from the pics I got some pics of the B & C posts on my resto thread and MorkC68 has got some good pics on his resto thread too. I'll see if I can find the pics on photo bucket and post them up to save you scrolling through pages and pages on my thread ;D
cheers Diddymen them pic will really help and will check them threads. As for the van not looking to bad to start with it wasn't bad alot of it is from bad repairs from previous owners but I bet alot of you have found that. Wanna get 100% rust free if I can, erm well at least 99%! Will try and keep the thread updated as well so you will hopefully see some good progress cheers for the welcome as well David
A few more pics from today I got the sill off and cleaned up the outriggers but a couple need some repairs nothing serious tho. Has gone through in places in the floor so will make some panels up and replace the thin bits. Have test fit the sills which are ok apart from where the floor drops around the 3rd outrigger, the new sills seem to stepped down far more than the floor dose and the outrigger is higher than the top of the sill. Has any one els had this problem. With the sill in place A few other places ive found that need looking at nothing serious though. Hoping to get the floor repaired this week and the sill in place, good view into the garage tho!!
Its moving along nicely dude If i ever restore another bus im going to get one of those rollers they look like a right blessing
The jig is good done last ones on stands on the floor and it makes the job hard work so got this and for the money its perfect! As for my job i'm Eng Sup at a aerosol factory so not quite the same and off my tools now but as with everything you just learn how to do stuff as you go. Cheers for your comments boys, will try and keep updating
Top notch. I'm really astounded by some of the talent on TLB. I couldn't do something like this in a million years.
