Curtains. To line or not to line

Mine are thin and light coloured so let all the light in. I like waking up early when I'm camping - you don't have to get up do you?

Generally though I reckon (from accidental experimentation) when you wake up with yellow/orange curtains it looks like it's a warm sunny day outside even if it's actually raining. With blue/dark curtains you might sleep through a lovely sunny morning.

  2. Why would anyone want to watch me sleep? and i'd have to have the light on for that to work, this is the first time i've even heard of lining curtains.

I use neodium magnets to fix them, and I don't think they would hold the curtains in place very well if there was double material to hold on to.

  3. i still haven't got any in my camper... can never decide which fabric. :/
I'll be making some rosail ones (bekyip will know this fabric) for the floral explosion for some serious camp camping and more sedate but classic set in a laura asley gingham for when i'm feeling more sedate and classy :D Both sets will be lined.

am also thinking of a light 'summer set' in a raspberry stripe for those floaty, dreamy summer evenings. these won't be lined so they can protect my modesty(?) as they hang in the warm still summer nights air - clearly not for this country!

  4. line them unless you have the thermal mats for the windows

  5. exactly, another vote for yellow..

  6. mine are light coloured and unlined but I have an emergency eye mask or two (like you have on overnight flights) if i really need to stay asleep

  7. in my experience the 'need to stay asleep' is usually from waking too early and realising i'm still drunk. :D

Did we sleep together at Damper Jam??

That exactly my thoughts on waking up with yellow curtains. They make you feel summery. When it's dark inside a bus it juts depresses me.

  9. Thats why I like waking up to these:

  10. I lined my curtains. They tie back fine . It depends I suppose on the thickness of fabric you use for your curtains and what type of lining you are using.

  11. Like this, looks great..:) :)

  12. Thanks for all you comments and especially the photos!

  13. I've only just seen this thread. I love that material, jaspervan - where did you get it? I've had an unproductive search for material for our new curtains over the winter, and when I did find some and worked out how much it would cost to buy and line them, have had second thoughts for now. Have bought thermo mats, and just had a go at fitting those for the first time, before going camping next weekend. Not hugely impressed with all the faff of putting them up, and them not particularly fitting well, so might still do some curtains at some point to hide the thermo mats when we're in the van.

  14. sorry to hijack the thread but i was thinking of getting some thermo mats and wondered where you got yours from Mrs Moosey but not sure if there's a difference between jk and heritage ones...?

  15. Our thermo mats were from jk have lasted well and we wouldn't be without them now.

  16. i'm getting very worried about camping at techenders without heater and will have made my own curtains by then but i'm a wuss when it comes to the cold :/

  17. Mine are JK ones as well (didn't realise anyone else did them). I'm sure I'll get used to using them, and wonder how I managed without! As for feeling the cold - I'm the same - we're at Volksworld next weekend and will just have to load up with lots of warm clothes and hot water bottles...

  18. hot water bottles are at the top of my list after yorkshirecampers gave me one in september to use! thinking of making up some wool curtains ...

  19. Pack more duvets than you ever think necessary (for winter I use one that is so heavy it nearly crushes me!!) and get some hot water bottles in and you'll both be fine Ermintrude & Mrs Moosey xx

  20. good advice. going to take all the duvets i have, it'll be like a marshmallow on wheels :D
