I thought the further away the exchange is, the worse the broadband speed. Where I live is 2 miles from the exchange and a few of the rich folks round here have paid for a fibre connection to their house, one had to pay for an under road cable, so they could run their business or work from home.
We have satellite broadband at the farm, it's absolutely rubbish but it's all we can get as we're too far away from a node or something. At times our dial up was quicker 20 years ago.
You will be right of course; all I know is that when we were with Virgin the wireless speed was regularly above 100 mbps and the only reason for changing supplier was because each month the bill kept creeping up, culminating in the removal of their 'loyality' bonuses - oh the irony.
