  2. No, mine is the worst. Its all about money and making big profits for the fat cat directors and shareholders. The big providers sell sell sell on a promise of ever so fast super broadband, but its a con, they don't invest, just make more profits. In my mind its a mis selling scandal.

Interesting article Kkkaty, so the Tories are responsible for us all not having super fast broadband and are currently berating Labour for offering it to everyone - you couldn't make it up.
Don't go with Plusnet broadband. I went with their 'fibre' and it comes through the copper phone line even though there is fibre to the house. 71mbs to the router, 23mbs from the router and yet the router isn't at fault, it's 'the wireless' apparently even when I'm sat within an inch of the router.

  4. Or BT. If you’ve got copper you’ll come a cropper!

  6. We’ve had BT for years and it works fine

  7. I changed from BT to Plusnet this year - just to save money (1/3 the cost) - even though ultimately they are the same company . It is only FTTC so is bound to be slower but still quick enough for what I use it for - but it would be crap if I was trying to run a business with conference calls etc.

  8. We have Virgin Media and had the phone/t.v./broadband 3 in 1 package but as the kids got older & the fact that almost everyone in the world has a mobile found the t.v/phone part un-necessary so ditched them for superfast broadband.... It's not superfast! It should be renamed as "same as before for twice the cost but without t.v. or phone"

Our broadband is terrible, on a suny day we get 3.2 Mbps and on a rainy day, 2 Mpbs with BT.

Some nights its easier not to bother trying to do anything on the internet :(

  10. Be aware that BT will put a Porn Block on to slow broadband down, if they detect you’re watching too much adult content.

Good enough broadband @ 37mbps at home but would love a mobile phone signal.

We are with plusnet, fttc, which gives about 50 thingies per wotsit on a good day. Which is fine TBH.

  14. I also did a hardwire connection, cat6 direct from router to pc... no better! Probably being ripped off as usual. 389 mbps is phenomenal

Its a little known fact that the actual speed you get through WiFi is about 50% of the quoted bit rate. The bandwidth is shared equally between space for traffic to your portable kit and traffic going the other way.
If your WiFi in your laptop is oldish, 54 quoted/25 actual is real.
If you connect a cable or use 802.11n WiFi capable kit like more modern kit, you will get the real Fibre to The Cabinet speed

.. oh yeah apparently we will finally get that fibre to the home because the copper scrap will almost pay for it ...

Just hope you have a charged mobile phone when the mains trips because the house is on fire or the plumber is slumped over the live wires they hit...
Because without mains the VOIP phone of the future will be a dead brick ...

  20. While I’m on such techy things I heard this on t’crystal set today. Fascinating as well! How one bloke stumbled on how to connect computers - and in doing so (more or less) invented the Internet!
