Clutch cable snapped

  1. Me again with more daft questions!!

So my van came out of storage the other week, has since been to the garage, had a full service, some bits and bobs done on it, wheel bearings, steering box etc....passed its MOT and all good to go.

On my first little outing to the camping shop my clutch cable snapped!!

The gearbox on my van is a little sticky/clunky, especially getting the van in to third gear. It just so happened that the cable snapped when trying to get the van in to third gear!!

I'm going to change the cable this week, I was just wondering if this is just coincidence or if the dodgy third gear could be part of the reason the cable has snapped in the first place???

    Thanks for the input!

  2. Doubt the cable has anything to do with what gear your trying to get into, just releases so you can change gear.
I've been through a few, always keep a spare in the bus

Cable will have been stretching before it broke. That would make gears more difficult.

  4. coolio cheers!

Will change it this week, easy job?

  6. Thanks all.

Speaking of spares....are there any more essentials I should keep in the bus, without taking up too much valuable space!

Some carry half a van load of spares with them and others nothing more than a mobile ‘phone.

I have throttle and clutch cables and an alternator belt - with enough tools to fit them.

Most of the space under my R&R bed is tools and spares.
