    Thanks Mork.
I know it is dragging on a bit! It's amazing how long it takes and how much life gets in the way too!
I love these wheels and this camper was always going to have some when I found a set.
Having a few issues with the FI but I'm learning about it all the time so it's not a complete disaster..

hey all! Sorry for lack of updates but it's been slow! New project in a different workshop and Christmas, work etc!

So it looks like lhd Westy Berlin furniture in good condition is even rarer than a rare thing!

When we first started looking for our new bus for family adventures we really loved the Berlin layout but pretty much disliked the 70's laminate it was clothed in! We decided early on I would replicate it in something more tasty and able to house a modern fridge etc albeit in stealth mode. As time has rolled on We've really fallen for the period look and have decided to stay with the stock set up. The downside to this is I've missed any good Westy units that have come on the market and a wanted ad on here, vzi and the samba have proved fruitless. It seems we have only one option..

    Restore what we have!

Yesterday I took stock of what we have and what needs doing. I measured up the individual laminate panels I need and transferred this to scaled pieces of paper to see how they fit grain wise onto the 1.2 x 2.4m sheets offered by NLA VW.

I also need to buy/make/find the interior trim set and various other bits and bobs too such as the headlining, curtain covers, spare wheel cover and handles etc

Its expensive and looks a complete nightmare but I don't seem to have any choice?

So has anyone else done this and can you offer any advice or have you got a secret stash of Westy furniture that I can pry from your grip!!

Haha! Thanks, but yours is cool! Yeah I'm currently looking at that thread and it's awesome but also quite a bit scary if I even want to get anywhere near the results that he got! Plus my units look worse to start with...

So its been a while since I last updated but ive been doing a bit where and when I can. I'm really hoping we will get the bus finished soon but each part of the restoration is taking longer than expected! The interior is a perfect example of this. Re-laminating the original westy furniture takes forever! Here are some pics of the journey so far!

This is the sorry state of our interior!

Kitchen lid is missing, water tap missing, storage flap by fridge long gone as well as one of the drawers. Laminate peeling everywhere and big chunks missing too! what a mess! The curtain covers are gone too. This is going to be a challenge!

So Adam at NLA VW is my best friend again! We collect 3 sheets of late westy laminate from him at dubfreeze. What a star, he gives us one free of charge cos it has a small chip on a corner!!

So here we go..hot air gun gets the old laminate of quite easily with a flexy filling knife.

and a hammer makes light work of the old ply and hardboard. An old pair of sidecutters pulls all the staples out.

The headbanger had a nasty aircraft type spotlight cut into it at the rear. it was broke and needed to be gone so I did the best I could with a patch of ply. I know its a different colour but I'm not that bothered. ive got plenty of laminate so decided to cover the underneath to disguise the repair.

The thin ply is hard to source but managed to find some in small sheets at a model supply shop
