  1. got my engine appart at the moment and want to clean the years of muck that is on the outside and inside of the case .
what you guys recomend for doing this either by dunking it a bucket or scrubing with rags ? any good or bad stuff to use type 1 engine :D

  2. A good Gunking/jetwashing, wait till the misses is out, then into the dishwasher :)

  3. Kerosene or red diesel bath and tooth brushes, nail brushes

  4. I've used thinners/white spirits to clean my case,
works pretty well, put some in an old household cleaner squirty bottle (mr muscle) etc, give it a good squirt and a scrub with cheap hard tooth brushes (pack of 10 for a quid) then squirt it again clean, wipe off or just leave it to evaporate.

  5. Brake cleaning fluid, scrub, rinse..

But I have been known to use the dishwasher, Got caught though :(

  6. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

    Dishwasher's good for a final rinse, but I wouldn't use powder. :)
    You can't beat petrol*

*disclaimer - it's not best practise.

  7. send it out to be soda blasted, will come back like new

  8. Why not have a romantic night with the missus in the bath? With enough bubbles, she may not notice you're scrubbing your crankcase... :)

  9. used engine oil is not good for you at all , had mine acid dipped , came out literaly like new

  10. Type 1 engines can't be 'hot tanked' or 'acid dipped' because the case is magnesium, you'll come back to a pool of goo. Stateside do acid dip followed by hot wash on type 4 - they do Type 1 engines too but their website doesn't list what they do.

Remember to take out the oil relief valves first. I found that Gunk (the green one is more environmentally friendly) followed by a steam pressure wash is suitable for general cleaning.
    :)

  11. Thanks a few idea's to have a go at :) not looking for a super shiney case just want to get the years of baked on crud thats on the outside and a good clean to get rid of any crap on the inside :D
