Carb woes

  1. Does anyone know of a machine shop that could add bushings to the center pivots of a twin barrel carb?

One of my carbs is worn and air is leaking from the spindle shaft, it's either the spindle, the body, or both that are worn. I can buy a new spindle, but that won't solve the problem if it's the body. I'm exploring my options before creating an expensive desk ornament.

I’ve had machining done by AGRA (Precision Engineering) Co. LTD, 15 Ure St, Dundee. Recommended.

I have managed to insert bushings into my progressive carburettor using a Black and Decker mains drill in a drill press to drill out the holes in the carb body to 8mm stopping short of the throats.
I set up the alignment using a 6mm drill bit stationary in the drill first, clamping the carburettor in blocks of wood in a vice..

After drilling I glued in the Oilite bushings with epoxy (mostly as a filler) , using the closed throttle plate on the spindle to ensure the whole thing was aligned. Then filed off the excess length of bushing .

Again I felt there was nothing to lose and it cost under £20 to have a go.

It has been running much richer at idle since...
