Can I wire leisure battery to run hook up system?

  1. In the middle of no where with no leccy hook up. How can I use my leisure battery to run that system? Is it even possible?

  2. Yes, but not now. You need an inverter.

    1973daisey and paradox like this.
  3. You'd need a 12v - 240v inverter to make that happen I think...

  4. That's what I thought. Anyone suggest one i.e link me to a good one I can keep on the look out for along the way

  5. Battery megastore at Tewkesbury do them very cheaply. You need to decide what wattage you need then go from there.

  6. I seem to remember machine mart had some reasonably priced a while back

  7. But you should be aware the inverter will drain your leisure battery very quickly, at least that was what i was told.

1973daisey and vdub brvs like this.
  8. How quick is quick?

  9. Depends what you've got connected to it ;)...

  10. What @snotty said.
That said, I ran a 240V floodlight and a stereo off of mine for 14 hours.
But your wife/girlfriends hair dryer would kill it in no time.

  11. 'Tis true. You don't get something for nothing - all that energy's got to come from somewhere...

  12. I have a thousand watt invertor ill sell for £100

  13. Whilst I'm not overly familiar with the ins and outs.
You need to double your requirement for "modified" sine wave whereas "quasi" sine wave gives a true reading.
I'm expect someone will know more.
The point is don't be fooled by cheap stuff with high ratings, you get what you pay for.
My 1500W will run 1500W without coughing, a friend has 2000W Chinese effort that dies if you show it much more than a 800W.
Check out the cable size you need for a biggun!

A 120 amp hour AGM battery will provide about one kilowatt hour before it is too flat to be good for it. Wet lead acid a bit less.

It is more efficient to connect 12 volt equipment to the leisure battery when away from hookup and use a proper charger that doesnt mind having loads on the battery while it is charging. You use that on mains hookup.
If you want to run things like electric drills pay the extra and get a pure sinewave inverter. Cheap inverters are modified sinewave and my Black and Decker mains drill buzzes and lacks torque on a cheap inverrer. On my 1200 watt Mastervolt it runs beautifully but then that inverter cost about £500 when new. I got it as scrap of my employer for a lot less. Its too big to fit in the bus. So I use a 600 watt inverter/battery charger unit which was sold for use in an uniterruptible power supply. The inverter cuts in when the mains is disconnected.

  15. Now u see y I take so many old lift battery's buddy lol !!

  16. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Fork lift batteries? 6v? I would like a pair of those.... :)

  17. No buddy stairlift batts 12v I keep a few old ones just to charge my phone and power light in van and allso run the cool box
