Camping de Paris, Bois de Boulogne Paris France

  1. Right in the green center of Bois de Boulogne along the river Seine, as close as you can get to Paris, here is the website:-

Sounds lovely on the web site, don't be fooled, most of the staff aren't sure whats going on, its very busy as you would expect in the center of Paris & its the most expensive site I've ever stayed at 69 Euros a night..
The layout of the site is nice with a reasonable shop & restaurant, what really let it down was the toilets & showers. They are very old & in bad condition. I could cope with that but it was shocking to see that there was Marmite on the floor in the shower, the toilets were unusable with no paper. I was forced to use the disabled toilet I'm ashamed to say as this was just dirty not filthy.
I did go to complain but the reception was always full with a long wait & I was on holiday.

Hopefully the 2 days I stayed were not typical of the site but I can only speak on experience.

  2. Oh dear .... we stayed there about 8/9 years ago and it was dreadful then as well.

There is a nice campsite in a quarry just outside Paris (to the North I believe) that we liked instead another year - you could get the train into Paris easily. I will see if Matt can remember what it was called and will let you know.

  3. Thanks It's nice to see I wasn't the only one who found it crap. ;)

  4. That is kind of an understatement!! ;)

Matt tells me that the one I am referring to that was in a Quarry is this one:

Looks like they have done some work since we were there coz I don't remember the pool or cafe!

  5. I know i'm going to sound like an old git but we stayed there in 1981! We had just left Uni and I had my appendix out 2 days after my final exams. Then we traveled down to where Ginny's parents lived near Cahors and we stopped for a few days in Paris. We were on train/foot and walked for miles with our bags and 2 person tent.
If you think the site is bad, we were in the over-spill. We lay there all night in the tent watching the Seine water-level rising and people in their motor caravans arriving from Fountainbeau forest having been dodging trees falling over in the storm and we were begging for coffee!
We had half a can of lemonade and a bag of cheese and onion crisps!! :(
Seems to have come full circle and by the look of it we're in for much the same weather in Cornwall next week....but we'll be in the van, not a small tent pegged into sand!! Happy days ::)

  8. I can wholeheartedly recommend Hutopia if you're looking for somewhere in Paris.

I know it's in Versailles, but it's close to a train station which is close to Paris really. As their website says, you can be in central Paris in 30 mins including the walk to the train station. A bit pricey compared to a lot of French sites, but very clean, really good showers and toilets, nice site and helpfull, multi-lingual staff.

  9. Nice one. Next time we visit Paris I'll stay there it looks nice. :)
