  1. Hi all

Just thought I'd introduce myself; I'm Rae. Hubby and I are new to the VW "scene". We have loved campers for years but never had the funds to own one until now so we're looking to buy our own Westy.. Any advice and tips you can give me would be much appreciated :)

  2. don't buy a rusty one..

    bonjour..:hattip:

  3. Get someone in-the-know to look over it before you hand over the money lol.

Some can be a treasure trove of bodges and hidden nasties.

    Welcome by he way :)

  4. Listen to this lot , awesome bunch and strangely they know what they are talking about...once you get through the sarcasm , can't thank them enough for their support over the last two and a half years....the cheekiness though is another issue :D . happy bay hunting :)

Don't go for the first one you see - unless its fab and super cheap :)

Welcome from Cheshire , it's a good idea to come here first, there are a few good busses for sale on here belonging to members, good luck with your search.
You'll find there's often someone willing to look at a prospective purchase with or for you if it's near to them too.

  9. if you find one you like the look of ask if someone on here could go and take a look with you.

Welcome along :). What they said ^^^

  11. Might as well get this out the way before somebody else does......by a Mazda bongo!

Then you can go and enjoy some camping instead of sitting in a layby waiting for the AA!

Joking aside, listen to what people on the late bay say....

    - the best looking ones are sometimes the worst
    - an mot is good but doesn't mean it's a truly solid bus
    - expensive doesn't mean it's any good
    - freshly under sealed means sometimes hiding something (you underseal for longevity when you buy it or when you get around to it, not two days before it goes up for sale)
    - post up pictures of any potential purchase and you will get almost instant advice from people on here

The best thing you can do is listen to what people on here say!
Whereabouts are you? Bound to be someone local.

  13. Get a yellow one.

  14. I'm in Essex/Herts, near Stansted Airport. I love the Helsinki/Berlin interiors. We viewed one last weekend but it was quite pricey at £21500 so back to the drawing board for now. Thanks for all the advice.

Actually if anyone has any dealer recommendations or some tips on where to look locally that'd be great

Are Karmann Konnection down that way? They normally have some good looking vans in.

They're in Southend. They seemed a bit expensive last time I was there.

They tend to sell expensive stuff but if the OP has already looked at a £20k plus van I assumed that wasn't an over riding issue...

Fair point, they called £21,500 QUITE pricy. They're flipping expensive these Campervans aren't they, (I'm glad to say).

Yep, as an owner I'm glad too!
A sod of a "scene" to get into now though.
