Cab door outer scraper

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Brinky, Aug 18, 2019.

  1. So I’m rapidly discovering that it doesn’t matter how much you spend on parts they are crap !!!

The outer scraper , schofields best quality, the slots in the trim don’t line up with the slots in the door !!! Surely if I make the slots in the trim longer so they line up with the door the clips won’t hold properly??

  2. Mine lined up ok, They are a bitch though ! One of the worst jobs but I have no patience

Thats where a big screwdriver comes in. Then the holes line up with a bit of poking..

They tend to look wrong initially, but they are actually right when you get the chrome bit in the right place. I have fitted loads of schofields ones without issue.

Are the holes too far to the front or back of the door? I use a very thin pair of long nosed pliers to get all the clips lined up, before pushing any of them fully in.

  6. They are too far forward, I have elongated the slots by a couple of mm, just enough so the clips don’t fall out, still can’t get them lined up. Can’t say I’m impressed with much I’ve bought from schofield or their customer service. Wish I’d bought cheap rubbish then I wouldn’t expect it to fit !!!!

Just cut them, you do realise Everyone sells the same stuff which is manufactured by a manufacturer which isn’t the supplier

  8. The schofield ones I have are Classic line made in Denmark. C&C and Heritage claim to be German. Will they cause me the same problem?
Can be very expensive finding out

They will be manufactured in one factory and 3 different names printed on them

  10. Ok, thanks for the info, I’ll carry on swearing at the ones I’ve got then

In the end the only important bit is the chrome you can see.
I seem to remember similar faff, but the clips did manage to go through the holes and push it into place.
As its not structural, cutting the holes larger really doesnt matter. Hence my big screwdriver comment.

  12. I get that , but if I hang a door for somebody next week and it don’t fit in the hole can I say it’s the best quality and get paid ????

I’d you have the skills to make it fit then yes

  14. Yes but I don’t sell a door on the pretence of it will fit without having to butcher it which is what all the parts suppliers seem to do and get paid up front ...

The joys of maintaining a 40+ year old vehicle. At least there are some spares available even if they require some mackling to get them to fit

  16. I've just spent ages restoring a 3 bow roof rack, only to find that, if I fit it at the front of the van above the cab, the doors foul on the clamps. I have no intention of waggling the doors about to make a gap, so it'll have to go.
