We have a little Hitachi micro hifi in the children's room. It started buzzing through the speakers very loudly. I know it's old technology and is probably ready for being chucked over the fence. Just wondering if it' could be an easy fix. Perhaps one for you @mikedjames? Sent from my SM-A405FN using Tapatalk
Yes I was thinking duff capacitor as they filter noise out I think. But I wont be fault finding to that level I don't think. Could be an over the fence job! Sent from my SM-A405FN using Tapatalk
Might be a swarm of bees. We had one trying to nest in the kitchen extractor fan outlet the other day.
If you are lucky, it will be one of the big black cylindrical electrolytic capacitors- it will either be bulging or have blown its vent, or leaked on the PCB, all three being clear signs of distress. Old age does it. Our Marantz amplifier did this once but the buzz from that was 100 watts through the speaker on one channel. These capacitors are fairly cheap on eBay, match the working voltage and make sure the microfarad value is same or bigger than the one that came out. And make sure the stripe on the case goes in the same direction as the original (its the negative connection). Failure to comply and it will just go pop and buzz again.
Cheers Mike. Had a good poke about and all caps look ok with no pops or leaks. Now suspect it's more complicated than it's worth. Loud buzzing out of both channels on all functions. Btw. Hay-ho, no dramas. Thanks for taking the time to answer. Sent from my SM-A405FN using Tapatalk
The caps can just dry out too, so it isn't always obvious when they fail. You need to measure the power supply rails and see if there's any AC component on them.
