They really said that? Most unusual. Normally folk from Yorkshire make no mention of where they're from ...
exactly! my mrs is from wolves and i worked in cannock for 10 years, therefore i've picked up bits of both and can deffo say, none of them are brummie...... people seem to band midlands accents together, i would class jasper carrot as your stereotypical brummie and lenny henry is more black country, with frank skinner somewhere between the two.
in the comments people from the black country are saying it's not a brummie accent so we don't even know.... there's no hope for you southern lot.
when i hear the brummie talking i always think they need there battery checked they always talk like there slowing down
All I can say is, it's a good job you typed that, cos there's no way we would have understood you speaking it!
I'm not keen on the generic English 'countryside' Marmitekicker accent. My mate's grandad had a proper old sussex accent which sounds a bit like a West Country accent or a Norwich accent. They all sound a bit like the Grundys from The Archers.
I used to love "I didn't know you cared" at the time, what's the betting I'd think ' Wots this cobblers?' If I saw it now? Uncle Stavely carried the ashes of an old war comrade(I seem to remember) in a box hung from his neck. And the brilliant Liz Smith was in it if course
I'd forgotten all about that show........pardon? See Nana from The Royal Family before she was related to Bobby and Sheila Grant.
