Does anyone know of a garage open on Sunday in the Beaconsfield area that can test my dodgy starter?

What are the symptoms? Starters don't often just give up, more usually wiring related!

  4. you sure its not hot start prob ? let it cool down then try it ?

  5. I've just checked and they are open from 10 to 4

  7. How far have you driven it ?

  8. It may be just the solenoid that is stuck - I sometimes have to rock mine in gear to free it up. It is possible to hot wire the starter as well - someone on here described how t do that a few weeks ago

  9. All wires checked and cleaned. Battery at 12.8 volts when not started then 13.8 (when bump) started so alternator good & battery charging. It turns over for a second then slow to a stop as if battery is dead, earthed from battery to clean bit on engine but no luck. It makes a very metal high pitched whining when it does turn over

Hit the starter with a hammer while the other half turns the key, Male sure its not in gear.

  13. Doesn't sound usual hot start symptom.

Best bet is to buy a starter tomorrow from motor factor, then get some friendly forum members over to fit! :)

  19. It`s really not a drama - treat it as an adventure

Starter issues are usually simple , if temporary fixes .
Rocking to free up the solenoid or a swift tap with a your club of choice , you`ll sort it and chuckle about it i years to come ..... maybe .....

I presume it`ll bump start so fire it up and just carry on - parking on a slight incline is the way forward :D

    :hattip:
