  1. We're back from france -here's a couple of campsites we stayed on

Municipal site 65km from St malo.Nice quiet site, basic amenities but on the edge of the forest.Within walking distance of a lovely village and lake.

Lovely wooded site, bags of space and in the grounds of a manor house with a fishing lake, small restaurant onsite, TV room, playground and goat farm!
Staff were very helpful and gave us a jump start when Ella's battery was flat.
There's great cycling routes just outside the campsite, mostly off the roads, going down to Piriac and la turballe (good beaches) on the' Velocean' routes. Campsite is 2Km from large supermarkets.

  2. We're going to www.campingduletty.com (Benodet, Brittany) for the second time. Sailing Saturday Portsmouth to St Malo.
About a 3hr run to the campsite.
Two families. Two Westfalias. Two weeks of not doing very much other than drinking wine and little French lager stubbies and eating ham, cheese and bread for 3 meals a day.

  3. So (of course!) we’re sailing to Brittany tomorrow and today all the news and papers can talk about is how France is next to go on the 14 day quarantine upon return black list and how Britons would be fools and tooks to even think about going over there right now. The van is packed up ready to go!

  4. And the new edition of Camper&Bus arrived on my door mat this morning, just in time for my hols. It was all going so well!

  5. Whether we still go is now in the hands of the Wives!
    - the Ex-wife, who will probably put her foot down and say we can’t take my daughter
    - the Wife-wife, because she’s a nurse and can’t really afford to quarantine for two weeks when we get back

Personally, I couldn’t give a rats a-hole. I have been working from home for 5 months so far. No signs of going back to the office. 2 weeks quarantine won’t make a blind bit of difference to me. Except the house won’t be so peaceful with everyone else home

  6. Good luck. I'm in France facing the same problem, hopefully we'll be back before they decide to remove France from the safe list. The weather where I am is "damm hot".

Thought nurses (think all key workers) are exempt from 14 day quarantine.

We go next week at some point so hoping gov’t clarifies by then and changes advice to essential travel so we can claim on insurance.

  8. Thanks.
NHS have been testing and then returning to work as soon as all clear but they recently changed their tune and started talking about quarantine and unpaid leave.
There’s very little available in the UK for a plan B so fingers crossed we still go.

  9. Well .. we have made it as far as Portsmouth. We’re on our way after much debate and bullying from my Wife’s colleagues not to go. Just boarding Bretagne. St Malo next stop!

  12. So far, so good! The ferry crossing was a breeze. Departed Portsmouth under an amazing sunset, passed the Prince Of Wales and Queen Elizabeth aircraft carriers, watched the IoW hovercraft beach, from the aft deck with the first beer of the holiday.
The drive from St Malo to Benodet is about 140 miles. The sat nav picked a route of dual carriageways and fast, sweeping country lanes through idillic Brittany hamlets. Didn’t need to stop other than for fuel. Roads were empty. Arrived at the campsite around 12.

Just starting our third glorious weather day. First afternoon, after pitching the tent in the baking heat at the local campsite beach for a cooling dip, before meeting up with our mates and chilling by the pool, cooked up some simple pasta from brought supplies and then hung out with beer.

Yesterday we spent the day on Benodet Beach. Managed to park both Westies on the seafront. Very quiet compared with UK beaches. Beautiful sandy bay, full of sailing boats. It started to get busier around 4pm but it was too hot to be on the beach by that point anyway, so we headed off to the local Carrefour to stock up. Bbq and beers that evening.

Today we are going off in search of “Les Dunes”.

Weather apps keep forecasting thunderstorms. So far they have been wrong. Get to the beaches early while it is cool enough to enjoy them!
