Breathey Mcbreathe face

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Withnail, May 9, 2019.

  1. Need to sort my fuel tank breather as it's been blanked off for the last 20 years!

No T in the breather pipes within engine bay, currently just both joined together.

Problem I have is that I don't have anywhere to run it too.

Looking at this image I found on here:

I don't have D on my air cleaner, and currently have C linked up to the oil filler/crankcase breather.

    So questions are:
    1) What would the original setup have been with this air cleaner?
    2) Is crankcase breather fine linking to C
    3) Presuming 2 is ok intention was to fit a small hose connector into the side of the air filter somewhere, and connect the breather hoses to that via t piece. If thats ok, where should I tap into air cleaner? presumably somewhere near C is fine? I don't fully understand how the oil bath filters work and what the airflow is.

    Cheers

    Dan

This should be a pic of my engine bay. I can see it but not 100% convinced you'll be able to because google photos and permissions and things:

Air is drawn into the filter through the top intake hole, it flows through the oil into the carb, the theory being the oil traps dirt particles. There should be a pipe coming from your lower inlet that goes down through the tinware and rests just above the manifold, this drawers in warm air when the engine is cold, when the engine reaches temperature the valve switches the air intake to the top intake.

    Should be more like this

One day take the air cleaner out and replace the oil in it..it is a service item..
Air goes in, bubbles through oil at the bottom then flows up to the outlet, particles stick to oily coir constantly sprayed with oil from the bubbles , get washed down and end up in the oil at the bottom as a sandy deposit.

There is about 2cm of oil in the bottom and then anywhere above that height is effectively under a slight vacuum.
