Bleeding Brakes...Still need help

  1.
  2. might be worth trying to swap em over so you ve got nips at the top it might work :)

  3. The top nip is your main bleed those with bottom nipples these seem a little pointless. Maybe a newer design, I never got any air out of those I guess they are to ensure both cylinders are working right and not seized

  4. flexsys have you changed them

  5. if you rear stars are not adjusted then the brake travel will just push the shoes ,two nipples are common just concentrate on the top ones...

to adjust the rear stars you have to probably take the drums off ,it is best to do this anyway to see if you cylinders are leaking.. 8)

just pop them out and clean and copper grease em..

  6. have you had the beam out? have you ever undone the adjustable link rod between the pedal and servo? have a look at it and see if it is wound all the way back
if all that seems ok then you need to do the rears first as already posted, dont forget to back the handbrkake cables off first

  7. thanks all - i've stuffed up as i've put the callipers on upside down (one of them anyway) and haven't adjusted the rear brakes. So its likely I didn't need a new master cylinder - upside is that the van will have all new brakes
    ;D

  8. ...which is worth having.

Some calipers have two nipples so they can be fitted to either side. You need to use the top one for bleeding, so all the air can escape.

To adjust the rear brakes, take the bungs out of the backplates and move the star adjusters round with your tongue...

  9. sorted now.

I had the callipers upside down. Didn't think it mattered but it obviously does. Whilst I was at it and as it was so cheap i've redone all the back brakes too, so it now has new seals and flexi's up front, new pads, cylinders out back, new shoes, cleaned up and copper greased adjusters (what a difference that makes) a new master cylinder and a new hose between the master cylinder and fluid reservoir. All in i've redone what took me 5 days and have done it all in half a day.

Servo not connected yet as there is no take off on the manifold but the stoppies are great now

thanks all for advice given. I've now thrown my haynes in the recycling as it is officially ****** and am using my bentley workshop manual instead
    ;D
