  1. Ahh that’s good to hear.

I’m on a Fb group about them, it seems the hardest part is actually obtaining one from a decent seller. Thankfully I got mine for a steal through a seller on Amazon UK. It’s sat in a box since a little before Christmas granted.

I’m just toying with the idea of where to put it. Ideally I’d like it plumed into the totem pole so that it’s directed through all of the dash vents for those cold mornings.

This possibly means that I can take the job of hearing the passengers area away from the engine and then concentrate on keeping the motor cool which hopefully could mean a higher cruising speed.

So much going on in my head!

    Love it!

You might find that it is good enough to just pump hot air from say under the back seat. Keeps the install simple. I think that’s how I’ll do mine. I love having loads of projects going on in my head. Helps me dream up ideas and to get to sleep.

  4. Upol raptor is really tough and durable as long as the surface has been well prepped before applying

  5. Yeah considered that. That space seems too good to loose to the heater install and then where to put the diesel tank? Closer the better to the heater but then I don’t want to be messing around with diesel around either luggage or soft furnishings. A spillage in that area would be a disaster.

Mine is a walk through so can’t go beneath the middle seat. A friend of a friend installed one in the area above the Leisure battery tray which looked really neat and added a fuel tank to the same area in a really nice (motorbike style) aluminium tank. Fed the outlet into the original hot air ducting. Hence my idea isn’t so original.

I’ll creep under the bus and see if there is a big enough space to add a box for it to live in.

So your ideas help you sleep? Mine keep me awake!!

  6. Thanks, I’d heard rumour of its durability but not much about the need to prep well, but that’s kind of a given if it’s not a job you want to redo in a few years.

Would a "console" between the two cab seats get in the way too much? Shouldn't think it would be too high to step over and might simplify things??

  8. Yeah possibly. I’ve been looking at a couple from the flatpack company. Look nice but might contrast with the kitchen pod I’ve just acquired.

So thinking as I intended to build and not buy a kitchen unit I might have a go a building one of those instead. I have two dogs

And my concern is that then they can’t move around the interior freely, this is a good thing when moving but annoying when sleeping. They aren’t quite big enough to hop over anything worth building.

But having said that it would be awfully useful to have somewhere for those travel essentials and a cuppa joe whilst driving. Buuuut if it’s only purpose is to hide/house a heater then not entirely useful for that.

I think what I really need is it self contained within that console but transportable around the bus/awning maybe??

My Propex is sat between the front seats in the walkway, boxed in ... it doesn't cause any issues moving about.

You could mount heater on bulkhead behind passenger seat with a 90 degree hot air outlet. Point forward for driving and rearward for camping

  14. I’d love a picture of your install if you wouldn’t mind?

Made a massive trip down to Bristol today and collected a VanWurks kitchen pod from a lovely old chap and clearly a long time Vw nut! Two T6’s and 2 proper A/C beetles.

Happened to be chatting to a friend of mine that was going to the same place to collect a bike frame (my other expensive hobby is MTB biking )

So I managed to blag a little bit of company for the trip. Turns out that was time well spent too - he is selling up after giving up on a mk1 escort restoration he has been chipping away at for the last 15 years. This means that he has a wealth of tools the he will allow my to borrow and a tonne of knowledge that will be tapped.

So I am slowly (actually not that slowly at all) gathering a load of parts to install and some tools I can use to speed this shizzle up.

    Can’t wait!

  15. This idea has a lot going for it.

The more image cruising I’m doing the more I think either a buddy seat or slim storage unit attached to the rear of the passenger bulkhead isn’t a bad shout.

I did like the idea of removing that bulkhead and adding a swivel base (thus no need for the buddy seat). But my VW man wasn’t keen on this idea as trying to do this using older prototype bay seats has its challenges. I do have a spare front drivers (self supporting backrest) seat which I’ll keep as a “just in case” this idea moves forward.

How many KW of heat does the average dog give off. Might not need a heater

  18. Ha. At least a squillion - unless of course they’re even remotely wet. In which case they’re like an AC unit - drawing the heat from your very soul!
