    Hi

This has probably been asked before, but I couldn't find anything via search.

What's the best case sealant to use?

I should hopefully be starting the reassembly of my 2l type 4 quite soon

    Cheers,
    Norris

  2. Curil......you only put the lightest smear on.
Edit they do 2 different versions...

  3. Yep. Curil T is fine. Just the slightest smear.

    Permatex

If its good enough for Mr. Raby, that'll do me!

He swears by the PTFE Permatex on the case washers then the browny coloured one for the case halves :D

  8. Curil T on case. Permatex PTFE behind case washers. Simples

There probably isn’t a best sealant, there are several that will do the job perfectly well, but avoid silicone – that’s for plumbers to glue sinks and baths to walls. And our comedians can probably think of one or two other uses.

I use Permatex 2C #80011, the smallest amount possible on the casing halves, through bolt washers, and the bottom of cylinders. At one time Raby used more than a dozen different sealants on his Type 4 engines, I couldn’t even find a dozen places that required a sealant.

  11. I think Mr Raby’s a bit of an obsessive...

  12. At least it doesn’t smell as bad as EpoxyMastic...

An all American legend yes but there’s only one way to do things and that’s his way. I think not.

  16. There’s good old British Wellseal as well. It’s kept my engine oil tight

So will the Curil T I've ordered satisfy all of my sealing requirements or do I need other sealants for bolt washers, cylinders, etc.? Pragmatically :)
