    Hi,

My bus has a rear hinged westfalia roof with the roofrack above the cab.
I would like to take the fiberglass roof rack off and then make something to close the front of the elevating roof so it fits snug onto the roof when closed. So that i can have a metal with wood slats roof rack on the front.
Any ideas how to go about it..
    without buying a new roof.

Im thinking of closing the front part with ally or plastic joining it with fiberglass, putting a seal round the bottom.

The reason... i like the look of a tin top cab with metal roof rack.

  2. Seems lots of effort for little gain?

Would trial removal of your rack section (maybe horrors beneath?) and mock up the air-deflector section you speak of out of cardboard and stiffen with light softwood. Then have a go making it from grp.

A point to bear in mind is that a normal roof rack on a Tin top gives off a lot of wind noise - took mine off as couldn't hear the stereo over the whistling!

You could maybe graft a fibreglass front closing section on to the current roof, though you'd need to build a frame to fit the curve of the roof.

What you going to do about the holes left by the mounts the current front pod uses?

    Cheers.
I didn't know about the wind noise.
    Makes me think .

I was this king to just make good with fiberglass and filler.

Do all buses with theses wood and mtel racks whistle then?

You might get a tune if your passengers close off the holes for the original pod in a certain order....

  9. I like you like the look of a metal and slat roof rack. I found this picture and intend to do the same at some point with my front Westfalia roof rack. I've also been asked why but I like it and it doubles the footprint of the rack. I would like to store the spare wheel, jack n tools on the lower level, yes it will be a pain in the ass if I get a puncture but that's not a regular occurrence and I'll be in no hurry to change a wheel on a 2 ton plus bus.
