I was going to pick Holly from school in the camper I turned the key the worry lights came on albeit very dim and it wouldn't turn over just a click, it's a new battery the only thing I can think that's draining the battery is the tracker, Shirley a tiny tracker wouldn't drain the battery in 2 weeks:mad: any ideas my TLB family??

  3. A battery isolator switch is worth installing when stored at your home, so preventing what ever it is from draining your new battery. I have one on the mgb with a simple key switch and the battery keeps its charge for long periods. Some folks probably have those quick release battery terminals which would do a similar job. But I like the key switch myself.

Hopefully your now flat battery will charge up ok.

  4. dodgy alternator or just not driving the van enough to keep the battery topped up?

Doubt the tracker would flatten the battery in 2 weeks, but you could look up its power consumption

  5. Yes, even if it only uses milliamps, given time they have a habit of turning into amps .

  6. Yes, I had the same issue - 2 weeks with only the tracker live and battery drained. Now have it hooked up to trickle charge while parked up to keep battery topped up and tracker alive.

  7. Which tracker do you use?

  8. My Propex on standby drains the leisure battery in 2 weeks - so I now disconnect it.

  10. GPS tracker took leisure battery down to the alarm level, 10.8v I think , in 3 weeks, depends on what mode their left in apparently....

  11. You need the chocolate chip one for it to work properly

The tracker may only be a small drain but its on 24hours a day so it mounts up also is the radio on the battery as these have a drain keeping the memory.

The tracker will use more power if the bus is stored inside a building, because of the screening of radio signals.
The GPS will be on longer to get a position 'fix' if at all possible.
The GSM module will have to use more transmitter power to get a message out and try for longer.

But the tracker probably is not the story : look to things like Bluetooth head units which if they are like our Sony MEX2900BT use a quarter of an amp even if the unit is showing nothing on the fascia. Pull the fascia off and the drain drops to essentially zero.

Also check for usual things like a nearly burnt out dome light and a faulty switch on the door pillar, or the three way selector on the dome light left in the 'on' position .. too dim to see in the day but drawing half an amp .. Or LED light strips in the engine bay left on.

Connect a multimeter on the 10 amp range and put it in series with the battery negative - should show under 0.1 amps.

Many modern cars cannot be left for more than a couple of weeks because of all the electronic junk fitted that doesnt turn off properly.
