    Ah - ha!
As I suspected, the link thing (green arrow) should be on the end of the spring/stay (red arrow). Try that and keep your conk clear. :)

Feeling a little guilty tonight. l finished work early not wanting another late night because l have a mammoth task on Thursday and Friday of getting it all ready for the engine to be reunited with the bus :) All wiring is now sorted. Both batteries are back and the flood light reverse light now works off the leisure circuit.

So today l finished off the wiring on the rear lights. Because l want to keep the non-original red and white rear lenses in keeping with the American theme l decided long ago that this is what l would do when l got the chance. And as now was the perfect chance l thought l may as well finish this back burner project.

My side lights. Nothing new here.

    Once reverse lights now indicators.

    My new brake lights.

Tomorrow sees the new rust free fragment free gas tank (Thanks Shielsy) fitted, little bit of waxoyl behind the gas tank and fire extinguisher fitted. Then it will be time for a new hardboard roof of the engine compartment and Friday's engine reunite party :)

The end is in sight. Tomorrow will see the engine reunited with the bus. I've been flat out all night and finished at 23.30. Roll on tomorrow :)

    Waxoyling the never regions.

    New tank.

    Fire extingusher in place.

New hardboard tops. Gas tank breathers have been hidden behind the hardboard cover.

And so sad am l that l made a cover for the engine hatch to hide the dynomat sound deadening because it looked cheap.

And yes l can now see unpainted areas. The engine bay has to be one of the hardest places to paint :(

  8. tidy doesn't even begin to describe it Birdy...well done fella :)

Is that just ordinary board? This is probably a rather stupid question but don't you need holes in it? Just wondering because ours is mangy and hanging down and can't find replacements anywhere.

The holes help with sound insulation believe it or not! You can get board with holes, but then you'd always have holes along the edge where you cut it which wouldn't be good.

Steel ones were used on the first late bays and come up for sale from breakers. These are very neat and don't warp of course.

  11. steel ones...are they in 2 pieces?

l did wonder if that was why Zed. A sort of preventing an echo kind of effect?? I've got enough dynomat under there to to suppress it and then the bedding so it should all be good :) To be honest l very much doubt I'll notice any change with what l have done other than l will quite enjoy looking at my engine instead of keeping it shut due to the shame of it.

I'll experiment and feed back to you. If it does give me problems then I'll get it made from mahogany :)

And thus the fun is never ending. Yet another full day on the bus (l must learn to work faster :) ) and it was almost done but l am just not happy with the fuse holders l was using so will need to revamp some wiring to take a fuse box for the chokes, fuel pump and split relay. l didn't want to use those 2 pin fuses but l have no choice. I'll keep you posted on the developments.

In the mean time feast yours eyes on an almost finished engine bay. Just need to sort out the spring returns for the carbs and then it's go go go.
