Coud you guys give me a pointer on where to start fixing a backfire .

it only happens at high revs , i have been tweaking the dizzy over the last few weeks to try and sort the old carbs running issues , since the new carb has been fitted she runs far better but will not idle properly and backfires at high revs .

should i start with points , gap timing etc , she has new plugs , leads, points, rotor arm and dizzy cap and as i say a new carb .

    Thanks in advance ,Malc :)

  6. could be distributor advancing too much, maybe an intermittent spark plug or lead problem.

WD40 makes a mess. Use carb or brake cleaner. When I do it the engine slows if you have a leak. Others disagree ^. Find out for yourself - spray a squirt of your chosen leak detector down the carb and see what happens.
