Baby mods for a camper

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Chipp, Oct 2, 2011.

  1. Well, with baby no.1 on the way in december (will make for interesting xmas!), there are some little DIY projects i should be getting on with in the home............however, with the weather as it is 8) i have started thinking about next years camping.

I would be interested to know what others have done to baby proof their campers an make their lives a little easier with a nipper on board.

I already have a cab bunk which i am thinking would be a good place to put mini-me.

    Any suggestions welcome.

  2. our baby has slept in our camper with no mods other than a cab bunk

of corse a fridge to keep milk in and a gas ring to heat the bottle up are handy

    unless you breast feeding

dam this is starting to sound like Mrs M-B's baby forum

  3. Ha ha, I'm sure there are plenty of people out there in campers with baby!

Could be the start of something special for TLB - engine help, body work help, show reports, pregnancy and parenting............

  4. I bought a device to stop the baby falling off the cot bed but she climbs over it ::)

  5.
  6. Yeah the one I bought will fit. I think my Mrs bought it from Toys are us. :)

  7. i been camping with our bubz since she was 3 mths old ...........i baby proofed nuffin cep fit a seat belt for her baby chair ......the back of camper with the bed up is quite baby proof ,but as soon as they get mobile ....your in trouble for the next 21 years :(
i found baby hand cuffs and 24 hour play dvd player ...very good buys

  8. Congratulations!

I have no advice but keep us posted on adaptions you do make.

  9. Birdy

    Birdy Not Child Friendly

Get a nanny and come away for a weekend without the child.

Is it obvious I don't have children?? :)

    Congratulations by the way.

  11. children should always go camping with mum n dad ....full stop ...if you dont take em your a bad dad or mum .....

  12. My daughter loves camping, its obvious cos she's always happy when were away. I think its because she's with Mam & Day 24/7. She now calls all campers Milly. We got another one due in 8 days (baby I mean) so roll on next March. We'll be away every weekend then. :)

  13. I sleep with the baby on the rnr bed head facing in and put cushions up head end so he cant wiggle up and off the bed.. plus fluffy pjs and an all in one sleeping bag.. its fab.. love it as I always used to co-sleep with the boys (even tho your not supposed too) and was lovely waking up to his little face all smily in the morning wondering what the hell mummy was doing right next to him.. but you can get blow up travel cots etc etc.. depends how much dollar you wanna be spending :)

  17. Thanks guys. As some of you probably know know from experience.....its all happening very quickly!

Looks like there are not many mods to be made.

Liking the halfords travel net, very good idea. Probably better than my idea of putting the baby in a small 3 sided dog bed (a padded one for warmth of course) on the cab bunk. I dont think the dog would have been very happy either! ??? First camping trip will be Stonor Park, so will only be 6 mths so will still be in crib/travel cot thing. Should be ok on cab bunk shouldn't it?

    With regards to other suggestions:
    Baby hand-cuffs - thumbs up
24 hour DVD player - cheat
Leave kids with nanny - kinda defeats the point of having camper!

  18. By the way, I am serious about the dog bed idea, seems ideal to me!

  19. i've been trying to think of helpful things to say re babies and camping ( we took our eldest away when he was 4 weeks old) we did cheat and go in a caravan second one was 10months old and he went in a tent. we bought a pop up mini travel cot which was really useful as it stopped the baby rolling around too much. Also slings are great because they take up alot less space than a pushchair. and lots of wet wipes. oh and from previous experience take spare bedding in case of sick.
Re - co sleeping all 4 of us sleep on the rock and roll bed smallest yip across the back near the window and us other 3 next to each other ( this occasionally means you end up with a childs foot in your ear) but it works for us ( we are rather short)
    bek
