  8. I had the diaphram perish on the accelerator pump on one of me PDSITs the other week. Only aware of it when I was setting the carbs up for tuning. Move accelerator linkage, activate pump and hey presto a couple of mls of juice dribbling down on to No 1 pot. Just done 400 miles the weekend before and had not smelt a thing, me and Mrs P, and her nose is better than a bloodhound's!
    Check the WHOLE system.

  11. @Chrisradioman

Dude. Cheers for the link for the kit. I'll be ordering mine tomorrow.

Just a quick note of my situation.

Since I've had the van on the road (2nd year) I've always had a slight fuel smell in the van. I was told "all old vans have a Whiff of petrol" so I just carried on. Around 2 months ago it got REALLY bad so I had it looked at & they couldn't seem to find the source of the problem as it seemed to be intermintant.
A few weeks later a friend was following me & told me that as I took a left turn fuel just literally Pi?@ed out of the side if the van,,, so we got in the engine bay & under it and still could not find a leak.
So I took It for a second inspection. They found fuel was sitting on top of the carb (I don't know the technical term) so they sorted that.
No more fuel smell,,, for a while. It then started again so I went back to the garage, It was then that a leak was found, only tiny but a fuel leak of any ain't good. It was coming from the side of the carb, dripping straight on to the manifold!!! I couldn't believe how lucky we were at this point as that was literally a fire waiting to happen.
Since then I've fitted a new carb. The smell now was still there but very mild,,, so I had more of a look round EVERYWHERE,,, again, and found I'd missed one thing,,, the rubber in the petrol cap that goes to the filler pipe. It was slightly distorted, with a small gap. This was the reason my mate saw fuel coming out of the van as the fuel must have gone back up the filler neck & over the top as I took the turn.
So the engine is coming out this week & the whole lot is being done.

  12. Anyone know if this is the same on an early?

  13. Glad you've spotted it and until you've fixed it only fill the tank half way.
    :)

  16. Good man, its surprising how quick they deteriorate. Chin up with the engine, it will be something simple. :)

  17. Yes and no. There are still bits to check and replace, including the filler neck hose, but there's no sealed vapour system, the tank vents straight into the atmosphere and there aren't as many rubber connections. They're also a diffrent size.

  19. Cheers. I'll have to stick me noddle in there again. All the actual fuel lines have been replaced, wasn't sure about the breathers.
