  4. But the final nail in the Scooby coffin for me was having to mount the radiator under the belly.
I'd he driving around with a superheated puppy.

All the original ones with the good elongated fins where you can see the packing when you look down the end once you have taken off the pod risers from the exhaust end .
No mesh or anything in the new repros .

It all depends now how freaked out you want to get about it and want you wish to do about it .
Some folk really paranoid about it could go as far as cleaning all the pipe work up to your dash ...totem pole off and all that to clean it out properly if there is a chance of it stuck in the system by fine oil residue ...who knows .
On viewing a brand new original HE it's doubtful that any fibres would escape , but a good chance when they get ropy and very old .

I'm going to write to my local VW dealer and ask him how he intends to deal with imminent safety recall.

That's just because they had lots of blue asbestos left over from the T4/5's which they couldn't mix into the lead paint properly.

You could on the recall ask for a full fellows conversion ...might be cheaper for them in the long run . Elf and safety and all that .

  16. Interesting info...

Probably why there have been less death than you would imagine...

  17. Thats like saying a machine gun is more dangerous than a pistol. If you get shot in the head your just as dead. The extent of exposure and the asbestos type will affect the likelyhood of developing some form of asbestosis, as will being a smoker.. If the material has become friable then small particles will become detatched. Likely these will break down into even smaller respirable particulates on the way through the ducting and then quite possibly be blown directly into the breathing zone of driver and passenger.

Whilst i detect your trying to reassure its not appropriate. People will always jump on "myth busting" comments quite readily to reassure themselves but asbestosis and its associated conditions are not to be underestimated. It is a death sentence once developed. The likelyhood is as i said above the greater the exposure and the more hazardous the type then the higher the likelyhood but some are just unlucky and quite low levels have resulted in their demise. I have been involved in a few investigations and a recent one in particular where a very low level of exposure of a low risk product did the trick!

So why am i ranting? Not to terrify anyone but to make them wary and aware of the dangers generally as this is a risk many will come across in their evryday lives. Your far more likely to die from this than from a terrorist attack and whilst the risk may be small given the right circumstances there is always and element of risk if exposed.

  18. 2515 deaths in 2014. (HSE)

To put that in perspective there were 1775 road deaths that year
