Are you self employed, maybe a glimmer of hope.

  1. Get in my son...,

  2. If it’s true that would be a god send. Work is already starting to dry up. I’ve had a few calls to small breakdown jobs this week but that amount simply wouldn’t cover my running costs let alone my bills so even a couple of grand a month would allow me to pay my suppliers, keeping them in business and put food on the table.

  3. And how will this be paid out... we still don't know if grants will be paid for business rate relief self employed businesses or when they will kick in...
I know the world is in turmoil and that's why last week I told my financial advisor to release some isa's so I can survive taking a hit in the arse

Good news, as I only earn around 14k a year as a gardener. No money in it.
Where do I get more information from, regarding this? And do I have to pay it back with interest?

Don't be silly. We all know that you use wads of £50 notes for kneepads!
    Sorry, no that's sparkies!!!

Unsure how that works....many self employed pay themselves dividends....they aren’t covered so you get minimum wage at best if that’s all you declared.

As for the cash in hand guys...well, that’s gonna bite you firmly on the arse.

  7. Sparkles do this as they generally aren’t intelligent enough to count the notes. So they stuff them into their knee pads until they can find an appropriate child to count it for them.

  8. That’s an amendment I think, rather than the main bill. So a way to go yet, though a good expression of intent.

    Agreed!

As long as people’s returns and books demonstrate what they want to claim.....and for the huge majority they won’t come near it!

I pay myself dividends, it shouldn’t and doesn’t cover them....paying myself minimum wage is 100% my problem now.

Those who do a lot of non declared work....oh dear.

Btw the dividends thing could work like this....you own shares and don’t work but don’t claim benefits....your dividends might be from shares or owning properties and paying yourself from rent. It’s not employment per se, but it is an income. It’s also a Pandora’s box so best left well alone.

We need something for the poor buggers on zero hour contracts or those denied rights and forced in to self employment by large companies....I’m talking nurses, cleaners, retail and bar staff, they need the help.

  11. My daughter has a successful barbers shop built up by her mum and her over 30 years , they have to close . But I’ve always said to her it’s a bit risky with some of the blokes she gets in there ,,, and that was before this virus!! Very frustrating for her and her staff though :(. Gona see a lot more long haired gits as we used to be called years ago again ! And some true colours no doubt

My son builds houses but I don’t think it will be long before they are affected too !!! He employs a few too :(

Not heard that.....even under IR35 they weren’t going to bring dividends in to PAYE.

Anyone with shares isn’t an employee of the companies they own shares in.

  14. And us made redundant twice by gov reneging on renewable tariffs. Got behind a desk a couple of times due to my knowledge and management skills then back on the tools. I pay taxes properly so am waiting for some help as beneficial as that offered to PAYE workers. Matt Hancock this afternoon dodged it and says it's the unnecessary lack of tube trains at fault. FFS, how do these muppets get to tell us what to do as leaders?

I do agree that many self employed need help....but most wont be happy with what they get as proven by their books.

Pay tax on minimum wage and pay yourself dividends (or never put it through the books in the first place)....then don’t be surprised if they only pay you minimum wage.

    You is figurative, not literal.

I’m not saying it’s good, but how else can it be measured?

  16. I’d be happy with minimum wage at the minute. Half my jobs tomorrow have cancelled. My whole day on Thursday has cancelled. Half my jobs on Friday have cancelled.
My entire diary for next week is now empty. Few weeks of this and I’m finished.

  17. Same here, a month work just got postponed. I don't want the earth, just to be judged by the same criteria as those currently offered help as PAYE employees.

  18. Tax man has my details, he can easily come up with a suitable figure and put it straight in my account, easy to pay them, that's why they designed it no? Can't see why it's not a two way street.

I think we'll find that the Government requires you pay your PAYE staff and they'll reimburse you 80% of it...er...later, so my Bro tells me, but then he's as cynical as I am, though he is a boss man with PAYE staff so will have been studying the small print. That just can't happen with the self employed.
