Anyone try a Raspberry Pi install in their bus?

I was thinking about installing a Pi and touchscreen into my bus and was wondering if anyone had tried it. Originally thinking about mounting it on my dash as my entertainment system but it would have no FM radio function.
So I might put one in the back as a little entertainment system but the 7" screen might be too small to watch a movie on.

Has anyone tried this?

could be a messy job though to put in in the dash. I doubt a 7" screen (plus the bezel) would sit nicely. maybe I'll keep it simple and just have an ordinary radio in the dash and keep the Pi for the back section. maybe a flip down

 

I like the look of those raspberry pi's, was thinking of getting one for my kids but I'm not sure how much use they would get as they have tablets and Xbox

I assume the OS isn't compatible with windows or android apps?

 

There are a few different OS versions available. Most are Linux based as far as I know. There is a version of windows 10 available for it but last I heard it was command prompt based stuff so dunno what the point of that would be

My kids would probably only want to play minecraft on it anyway, and I think it is an older version on PI, I would like to get them programing and building stuff with a PI though .....just not had any experience of them to know if they are any good or if my kids would get board of it after 5 mins

I use mine as a home entertainment centre and its pretty good but they have so much potential. They can control electronic devices and some people even have elaborate home automation setups for a fraction of the cost of a pro system.
It would definitely be good to get them started at programming on them but I guess they'll know if they like it or not pretty quickly. Programming is not for everyone. I work in IT but not programming. I hate programming

 

I take it the home entertainment control is done through blue tooth or similar?

 

I got a raspberry pi when they first came out with a view to putting it in the van. Nothing was available at that point so had planned to write the software for it. Then the dog ate my raspberry pi (poor excuse, I know!) so that idea didn't get any further.

My plan was to use a 7 inch touch screen but have it attached to the sun visor (they are quite big on 68's). Failing that some sort of pull out arm contraption from the glove box.

 

I prefer to eat raspberry pie

 

And if that program will run on 512MB of ram you could get the raspberry pi zero for $5 (or free with a magazine) and it has a smaller footprint

Ooh I like it. have you seen the new 7" touchscreen they released. Install Kodi on the Pi, hook it to the screen and away you go. I may have simplified it a bit but not much.

 

I've been intrigued about doing something with a raspberry Pi... probably indoors rather than the van... but haven't found the right reason to invest the time!

 

I havent looked into it for while so it might be time to start a winter project Either that or finally finish the GPS tracker......

 

I set mine up as a home entertainment system. that's as adventurous as I've got. it sits under the telly, connected to the router and streams media from my NAS drive upstairs.. the NAS is cool because it has a built in torrent client in it so if I want to download something I only need to leave the NAS switched on once I've set it up to download the torrents.
I mean .... eh ...... movie piracy is illegal and I would never do that

the Pi is cool though and it works with the windows media centre remote control that I had lying around so it's a great, cheap alternative to paid services.

 

GPS tracker? also something I want to put into my bus. is it purchased or self built?
