The capacitor will hold a high charge.....if you touch it, it will kill you so let it dissipate... I’ve seen them melt a large screwdriver!

  4. Can I just point out that washing machine repair men aren’t “engineers”? Thanks

Old washing machines are notorious for tripping RCDs (if that’s what the problem is). They’re full of damp and slimeyness, with leakage paths all over the place. Could try giving it a good clean out inside.

  5. It was to me mate , i refurbed white goods as a bit of a sideline so picked things up from a great guy who showed me the ropes .

If you`re not confident it`ll be worth getting an engineer in as LG`s are quality , Hotpoint or Indesit ??
    just buy another !!

  11. If it’s a Korean machine, it may have run out of kimchi. There should be a small compartment that you fill with pickled cabbage. Worth a look.

  12. Also I can’t see a ‘fitter’ dealing with 22kv & running motors bigger than your van on the test bed to failure at 3000rpm!!!

  13. What washing machine have you got ?

  15. That was in a previous life a very long time ago but I have been a Miele service engineer & we have a Miele 820b, over 25 years old, still going strong (rescued from a disabled person’s unit). I’ve only replaced the drain pump, motor brush module & a door rubber.... best washing machines in the world! Fact!

If the heating element has furred up, corroded then water gets imto to it and it trips, because all wash cycles tend to start with cold fill then heater on .

The trip will happen once it has part filled on the wash cycle in that case.

You could try seeing if you can start a cold rinse cycle or spin cycle .. if it doesnt trip then more likely the heater...
