Any washing machine experts on here

  1. keeps tripping the breaker without being turned on , tried it in two different sockets and as soon as I turn the socket switch on, pop,it had completed a cycle and had been off for about five minutes when the power went.

  4. Sockets work with everything else and no problem with the washing machine door.

  5. So what make is it? The door has an E switch so when it’s open the machine is isolated. Unplug & spin the drum by hand, listen for any undue noises from the motor brushes but it does sound like either the door switch or the heating element (depending on make).

  6. Breaker or RCD? If there’s a short of some kind between neutral and earth in the machine, it will trip an RCD if something else on the same circuit is switched on.

  7. I would start at the plug... if it is a moulded one your problem could lie there or in the main cable.

I've got a CSE in woodwork if that helps:thumbsup:

  9. Its an LG, the door was open when the sockets tripped. It was a process of elimination that led me to the washing machine.

  10. Any problem inside the m/c should take out the fuse in the plug rather than the breaker... your plug fuse is 13A but your breaker should be 16A

How about the breaker breaker :p

  12. RCD Snots, it trips the main switch as opposed to just the socket rcd

  13. fuse is good

  14. Breaker breaker should be either 32A or 45A so there is a major problem if it’s taking the main breaker out, What’s your 20? 10-4 come back. ;)

  15. Can you smell any burning?

  16. Initially check the plug , it`s obviously shorting out somewhere it`s just finding the culprit ..

If the plug checks out UNPLUG THE POWER , take off the lid and follow the lead into the machine . Check the capacitor where the 240v lead plugs into the capacitor and check it , they tend to blister if blown but occasionally show no external damage . If your confident with a multimeter check the output is same as the input - 240v .

Other than that it could be a multitude of things but i`d go for the heater , check for continuity and ohms - should be 22 to 30 ohms .

    EDIT
Just seen it`s an LG . They usually have a brushless induction motor . THESE ARE LETHAL !!
Although the machine is unplugged they `hold` the power so be very careful if you decide to root around inside . Leave it unpowered for at least 15 minutes before having a poke around ...
