Likewise Spitfires here. I live near a massive showground and they’re usually booked for some displays a couple of times a summer. Right old racket they make, I always run outside in awe of those things and the lucky/crazy guys who fly a 70 year old plane like that.
Would love to see a Mosquito though.

  5. I got my private pilot's licence from Netherthorpe, nr Sheffield. The instructors loved taking people on their trial lesson over the Derwent dams.

  6. My dad flew the BBMF spitfires & hurricane for three years in the late 1970s. But they were 40 years younger then.

When was this taken - the last time I was in there it was almost derelict (2011) but I was surveying the annex for a partial refurb and had nose around the office - apparently prince Charles had seen the state of disrepair of it and his dogs grave ( darent type his name here ) and ordered that it gets the refurbishement it quite rightly deserved ...

Unfortunately the day I was there I witnessed Red Arrow Pilot Flt Lt Sean Cunningham tragically ejected from the cockpit....

  9. Been a big push to make it all better. There is a plan to build a big heritage centre.

I was in work that day too.
