There is nothing illegal about putting an old reg plate on a newer vehicle. Like many personal plates.

New plates on old is illegal.

Representing it as an older vehicle on eBay is dodgy. Looks early late but has a paper filter airbox so the engine is newer. A 1979 on 1969 plates?

Hi mick been watching this one, def a late bay 100% it has been visited by a member of tsvwr and it has all the ID plates for the early reg either a ringer or ID’d years ago to gain tax free status Very difficult to asses it’s true identity as colour and interior updated I can’t link it to any Van outstanding that we have featured From experience DVLA and the police will not be interested My kindest regard

There’s quite a few late vans with earlier ID’s, my guess is most swaps done over 20 years ago were done for the free tax, as rotten earlier buses/ID’s could be picked up on the cheap.

There will also be some ringers in the mix - but for the most part the police aren’t interested, only if the previous owner notices and wants it back - again, unlikely as insurance will have been paid out and the bus would have been given a quick blow over to disguise it/match it to the earlier logbook.

  8. Maybe this car dealer bought it in as part exchange. He has quite a lot of modern cars for sale and may not realise the Bay is not a genuine 1969 van. Ebay may not be concerned about the Bay unless it is clearly misleading in the description, which we know is not honestly described. So it may be this dealer has been duped himself, paid a tidy bit for it and expected to make about 12k resale.

Regarding using early donor vehicles, its quite common with mgb's where new bodyshells are used and then an old 1960's wreck is used to provide some parts and importantly the 60's plate. As a genuine 60's mgb owner, I can't recall seeing anyone try to pass a reshell off as original.
