There's only one Jeremy Clarkson. There's only one Top Gear. No other person or show will ever match the original in this case.
i watched it last night and it was a direct rip off of the same episode whe had a few years ago, don't forget though top gear is an entertainment show now more so than a car show i feel, the american version did look like they had all been watching the uk one to try to get the characters they played right...i wonder if the other countries that do the show follow the format like this? i don't think i'll watch it again though it was just too strange to put up with.
I think the issue is they aren't middle aged - half the appeal is its middle aged blokes p1ssing about and younger guys don't seem natural with that. Add that to the positive attitude of the Americans on all fronts and it feels like they are trying way to hard. Pity, because The Office, and American Worksplace is good as it adopted a slightly different attitude - that and Steve Carrel rocks.
I tried watching it too, But its rubbish. Then again i think 5th gear is rubbish too, There IS only one Top gear, and in a bus thats 4th
me and my dad tryed to watch it yesterday. its shocking, it felt it was missing the point of top gear :S
