Alternator regulator

  1. I'm assuming this alternator needs an external regulator ? Can anyone confirm this and also if I do need one is the one in the screenshot OK to use with this alternator.

Yes and yes. Should be a three terminal plug goes on the alternator and wires over to the regulator which on my bus is screwed to the fuel tank firewall behind the air cleaner.
If wires are not present, the alternator terminals are labelled in your picture, match them with the marked terminals on the regulator.

Note that some regulators may need a good ground connection from the regulator body to work properly, the metal cased ones sometimes seem to need this, although the alternator itself should be providing the ground through one of the three wires running between them. I dont think the MegaBug one you show has that problem.
