I have a type 4 engine and I have found out why the fuse to the split charge is blowing. It's putting out 17v. I have changed the external regulator and it's actually putting out slightly more? Is there another regulator within the alternator?
No, just the external regulator, which one have you replaced it with? Some are better/worse than others.
Is the new reg literally new. Good quality, Sounds like reg issue to me tbh. where are you measuring the voltage?
Just so were on the same page. Do you have a T25 engine in your bus, or is it a T25? Have you had it on the road and this is a recent issue or is it being restored/repaired/prepared?
Sorry. Techers was its maiden voyage. Its a t2. The engine is a type 4, it had been in a t25 before I bought it. It was one of the engines 914 style surplus stock I think that was built for the army. It has the filler and dip stick on the top.
Snotts, as I said not long been on the road. Only found the issue 'cos it was blowing the split charge fuse. Stripped all the wiring down twice before I found it
Only mentioned it as, as far as I'm aware, the "stationary" engines that folk like VWH used to sell had 24V electrics. Worth looking up the alt part number.
It is the bay then. Any chance of a pic. Trying to figure how you got it to fit if it's still on the t25 alternator. 19v is way out and would have fried your battery I would think.
Can you see the part number anywhere? Worth looking. I'd imagine a 24V alt fitted with a 14V reg would exhibit strange behaviour.
Looks like you are . Check the number before doing anything else. As @Dicky says, after fixing the prob, you're likely to need a new battery...
