I’ve got an alternator stand if you need one.

    Somehow ended up with two.

All I can say is, it’s worth dropping the engine to do - I speak from recent experience.

It will save an awful lot of swearing and skinned knuckles trying to get the fan off / dynamo stand out with the engine in situ.

It made sense for me as I had a bunch of other stuff to do on the engine anyway.

If you’re in striking range of Woking I’d happily swing by but I must warn you - I’m tea powered.

  8. Yep engine still out since gearbox rebuild ...to far away but im same tea powered

  9. If you have the chance of a genuine stand over the repro one that comes with the kit
Then I’d use a genuine stand
The repro ones have been known to crack in the casting.

Just been out to the shed.

This one is a repro part too

    Brand new never fitted.

Didn’t know the repro part could crack in service. Wasn’t trying to stripe you up with anything dodgy.

Incidentally I’ve just recalled that the VW guy I use when I’m out of my depth (quite regularly) recommended removing the rear pair of mounting studs from the engine case and using equivalent threaded bolts to fit the stand. Apparently it means the stand can then be removed without disturbing the inlet manifold.

The advice was too late for me as I’d steamed ahead and got it all done before I saw him.
