All at once, just before Christmas

  1. You know how you put things off? Things that need doing but can probably wait with a bit of inconvenience?

Well I have lots of these and as a business owner it's often a case of getting the time and money in place and letting them slide until then.

Over the last few weeks I've been changing security light bulbs, mending fences, replacing gadgets and all the other things that I've let slide over the months. Thankfully the business - after an appalling summer, is doing well and I've been in the fortunate position to buy a new Mac, printer and various computery bits that really needed buying.

As for the vehicles, well I bought a new leisure battery for the van a couple of weeks ago which means I have heating for the winter. Last week the car went to a local bodyshop to have the front of it put back on properly (after the missus ripped it off after getting stuck on a kerb and I used a combination of brute force and gaffer tape to hold it all in place). Yesterday though the van went in to have it's oil leak fixed. At five yesterday the bloke calls me to tell me it's an engine out job and did I know there was a hole in the exhaust. So that's still there pending collection as he can't fix it before the New Year. I guess I'll put a bowl underneath it for three weeks...

Today the Audi went to the main dealership for a very overdue service. The engine management light is permanently on, the auto box has trouble getting in and out of second plus there's a broken wiper, no left dipped headlight and a blown number plate light to look at. I wouldn't usually go to a dealership, but if there's an ECU problem then I rather they had it than Barrie down the industrial estate. So, £321 for a major service, not including whatever the gearbox will be if it's anything more than a loose connection to the computer (which the AA man said it might be on that hilarious day I put 10 litres of unleaded into the TDi).

Still, they have given me a brand new A3 Cabriolet to pootle around in today. Good job it tells me when to change up as who can actually work out six gears otherwise?

Oh yeah, this week I've done my Xmas shopping and yesterday I weighed out £81 for a parking permit and some visitor vouchers. If I want to buy that half season ticket for West Ham I promised myself that £350 needs to be paid by the end of next week. And did I mention I bought Isle of Wight Festie tickets (plus ferry and campervan pass) this week too?

Have a lovely day everyone. I'm off to peruse the Wonga website...
