I have the JK Stainless Steel quiet pack exhaust system, as does hailfrank..the build quality is excellent & it fits really well..

    Nope...does sound well though!!

  4. I had a JK stainless quiet pack on mine but it was too loud for me - especially when in France through those quiet villages! There was an air leak though and lots of backfiring down hills. I went back to stock

Then again I now have a quiter van but noticeably less power than before (I have 34ICTs) but the engine seems to run far cooler which is a bonus. I can live without the acceleration.

    Cheers

  5. I might have to look at the silent pack one's then and maybe a stainless one! :D

  6. i had a 4 tip monza on my old Bay running a standard carb and chrome filter.
my current prototype bay has a standard exhaust and filter and is noticably slower and quieter. so i think a free flowing exhaust does give a bit of extra power even with a standard carb.
the monza was noisy but not too intrusive.
mine was on my van since the early nineties but a don't think they make em like that anymore.

  7. A good exhaust will help a little as a original one's are normally slightly restrictive and if you change the filter for a free flowing one too you are getting in the air out easier so it figure's really ;)

I like the standard exhausts for the quietness. Have I imagined that you can get a bigger bore standard style exhaust somewhere? Poss BBT?

Mine came with a twin pea shooter - I love the look but one pea shooter was snapped off. :( I had a JK stainless one so that went on. The nearer you get to cruising speed the noisier it gets. I want to hear my engine not the exhaust note.

It's really slow. Going slightly faster than really slow at the expense of a headache and not hearing the ICE seems a bit pointless.

  10. just a shame they are out of stock! :(

  11. My only issue with a stainless exhaust is it increases the tendency to listen to it when going through tunnels etc. ;D Not loud in terms of volume....just seems to increase the bass ...if you see what I mean. ....

  12. I got stopped by the tunnel police going through the mersey tunnel in my bug with a knackered glasspack silencer (minus any fibreglass silencing in it) as it was too loud apparently.
I've still got the written warning somewhere i think. ;D

You could always just buy the 4 into 1 header in stainless then make (or have made) whatever style of silencer you want to suit your hearing.
Theres loads of silencers and pipes on eBay and something to suit could be knocked up for less than the cost of a bought one.

If you like it quiet something like this with twin silencers could be for you.
    For type 1 engine:

  13. i would ideally like something with a bit of bite to it if you get what i mean ;D but that is a good idea just buying the mani and making something else up to go on the end! ;D you should get that framed up Zebedee! ;D

  14. You get what you pay for ;) [IMG]

  15. Yep. I warn you though that mufflers proper loud Iv had one before

  18. I would love something like that but not at that price! i was thinking more for the mani and possibly put a mondo box on it are they quiet loud as they look abit quieter? ;D
