Accelerator pump diaphragm gasket ?

Just fitted an overall kit in my Solex 34 pict 3 carb.
Thing is the kit contained a 1 mm thick gasket for the accelerator pump diaphragm, there wasn't one on the carb when i stripped it down, should i use this gasket or not ?. Anyone with knowledge or experience of this
    issue would be much appreciated.
Also i could only fit a new brass throttle spindle bush at the pump end . The bush the other end is brass and part of a lever assembly, it's 10 mm diameter instead of 9.5 mm, longer with a shoulder on the outermost end, anyone know if these are available?.

  2. The pump diaphragm doesn’t need a gasket. The castings clamping up on the diaphragm rubber are sufficient.

That's about what i thought, but why do they produce and include it in the kit?. I thought it maybe because the new diaphragm is all thin rubber and the original has a thicker ring area around the brass centre. The thick gasket could be to restrict the area of rubber movement when in operation.
I've put a foto up of the original that was fitted, notice the central thicker ring area that the new diaphragm doesn't have.

    Original diaphragm.

Also i wonder what the effect of adding the 1mm gasket would have on the spring pressure and operation of the pump .

If the original diaphragm is still use-able, I would use that. The ones in the kit are not great quality.

I know what you mean but the original, although usable seems to be hardening up and shows signs of cracking.
I'll probably use new one without the gasket.
Just looked on JKs site and the gasket is not included in the picture of the kit....?

This is the larger spindle bush i couldn't replace as it's bigger than 'normal'. Not too worn though unlike the nylon one the other end.

  9. You get all kinds of “spare” bits with the kits, which aren’t great these days. I’d use the new diaphragm if the old one’s getting hard. There should be a nylon bush on each side. Your brass thing is part of the arm, I recall - I’ll have a look at one of my spare carbs this afternoon.

If your carb is over flowing, check the thickness of the new lid gasket. They supply some stupidly thick ones these days, which will reliably make the float bowel overflow. Should be about 0.4mm thick ( not 2mm).

Thought i'd add an update to this thread, as i previously said the throttle arm bush at the end of the throttle spindle shaft requires a larger bush which is part of the fast idle arm assembly, this is no longer required as it was part of a damper type gizmo which is no longer on my Solex 34 pict 3. I think it was a one year only (late 1970 to 1971) part of all the emissions gubbins.
To get around this i bought an oversized Oillite bush from Bearing Bros and turned it down to suit. See image.
Hoped this may be useful to someone out there. bush2.jpg Second image is the bush fitted. throttle bush.jpg
